Filming & Community Event Requests

We welcome applications for events, filming and photoshoots. Permission to use the space must be obtained before the event/ filming activities.

To submit an applicaton to hold a community event or conduct filming/ photoshoot activities at Bermondsey Square, apply via the links below.

For community events, the Bermondsey Square Community Fund makes awards of between £500 and £2,500 for events that benefit people living or working in Bermondsey.

Charges for Filming

We will request a contribution for filming and photoshoot applications that are accepted. The amount will depend on the nature of the project and space requirements. Payment is required 2 weeks in advance of filming or photography at Bermondsey Square.

Charges for use of the facilities at the hotel, cinema, restaurants and other retail outlets on the square are to be dealt with separately and set by the owners of those businesses. Please contact them directly.

Venue Hire Guidance and Requirements

Volume

The space is not suitable for events that involve excessive volume, prolonged periods of music or late-night music.

Access

Please detail in your application activities or transport requirements which may impede access to the Square. The property owner reserves the right not to grant access to activities held on the square. Depending on the nature of your event/ activity you may need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice. You can do this via the Southwark Council website, linked here.

Gazebo Hire

If you would like to request the hire of a Bermondsey Square branded gazebo, please complete this form.

Event limitations

Markets run in the Square every Friday from 6 am to 2 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. Filming or events which are likely to disrupt the markets will not be approved.

Prior Notice

We require at least two weeks’ notice for all filming/photography/event requests.

Risk Assessment

Enquiries should be accompanied by a detailed Risk Assessment / Method Statement. Applications will not be accepted without it.

Public Liability Insurance

A copy of the applicants’ public liability insurance and employer’s liability insurance (minimum indemnity of £5 million) must be submitted with the Risk Assessment / Method Statement.

Payment

Payment for all filming/photography/events and any auxiliary staff has to be paid in full 2 weeks before the date of the activity.

Student Requests

All the above criteria are still relevant to any student filming and photography other than the fee (if your proposal is accepted there is no charge to use the square). To be considered for no charge, students must provide proof of student status via a valid student ID card and submit their application using a valid student email account.
